Held annually since 2002, originally as the Bangkok Business Challenge, 'SCG Bangkok Business Challenge @ Sasin' competition has been co-hosted since mid-2017 by Siam Cement Group (SCG), a leading business conglomerate in the ASEAN region, and Sasin School of Management (Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University)- the first AACSB and EQUIS accredited business school in Thailand and a co-founder of AAPBS (Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools).

In 2008, this competition was launched globally, becoming Thailand's first (and only) global intercollegiate post-graduate start-up competition, accepting 112 entries from 16 countries last year. Opticare, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan; The Iso-Truss Factory, American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates; Smart Toilet Company, Queensland University of Technology, Australia; and Fibrovera Wound Dressing, Naresuan University, Thailand won Houston Technology Center Asia Innovation Award in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 respectively.

Setting a new precedent in the standard of global business plan competitions, the objectives of the competition are to encourage scalable new venture creation by instilling entrepreneurial spirit into graduates' minds and planting the seeds of entrepreneurship and innovation within institutions of higher learning; create commercial value for R&D efforts, especially those originating from university research centers; provide an international platform in which representatives from postgraduate programs across the globe compete, learn from each other and foster stronger network; provide a business matching platform for start-ups, potential partners and investors; and bring sustainability concerns to mainstream commercial venture.

For 'SCG Bangkok Business Challenge @ Sasin 2019' competition, student teams from throughout the world are being invited to compete for prizes with over $60,000 in cash - the grand winner also receiving HM the King of Thailand's Award and the winner of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's Sustainability Award.

All full-time and part-time post-graduate students in any post-graduate programs enrolled in the 2018 calendar year are eligible to participate. Each institution (faculty, school, institute, or university) may send one team or more, each consisting of a minimum of TWO members and a maximum of FIVE members. At least HALF of the team must be enrolled post-graduate students from the same institution that the team represents; the rest of the team may be made up of any enrolled student(s) at any level (both undergraduate and postgraduate) from any institution and/or no more than ONE non-student member (the non-student may be any relevant person such as researcher, inventor, alumnus, etc. For complete details of the team member combination possibilities, including comprehensive eligibility and official rules, please consult http://bbc.sasin.edu/rules.php.
